Cartography is both an art and a science.
It is concerned with the design and production of
maps and a cartographer must understand the mathematical
techniques used to represent a solid spherical Earth
on the flat surface of a map sheet. The uses of symbols
provide the maps distinctive and comprehensive spatial
relationships with the earth and are an important
part of cartography. When designing a map, the cartographer
must know how to use symbols to make complex spatial
relationships clear and unambiguous. Further, the
cartographer requires a detailed knowledge of the
technical processes used to prepare a graphic design
for printing. A knowledge of cartography is important
to anyone using a Spatial Analysis system to manage
and analyze data, since decisions are often made on
the basis of information presented graphically to
the computer screen or plotted onto paper.
RAMTeCH, since its inception as a GIS based company,
realizes the importance of designing and production
of maps. We provide in-house production facilities
to produce graphic output in sizes from letter size
(8.5 x 11”) to standard architectural and engineering
sizes (up to 36 x 48”) and over-sizes - up to
9’ X 12’. For photographic quality final
products, we use high quality photo-gloss papers and
waterproof inks. This combination permits for high
quality (600 dpi) and exact color control of cartographic
output. We have the capability to provide cartographic
maps from different mapping systems and platforms,
which permits us to use additional color control,
raster manipulation, panelizing, and detail.
