RAMTeCH Partnered with FirstEnergy to Successfully Complete Enterprise GIS Migration and Supporting Data Assessment
RAMTeCH, a global geospatial leader, was selected by FirstEnergy to complete a system-wide data migration from its aging legacy non-Esri environment to the future state Esri Electric Utility Network (UN) environment. To provide predictability and assurance for the migration, RAMTeCH was then secured to perform a thorough data assessment on FirstEnergy’s legacy data. RAMTeCH utilized its Esri-based gReadyTM solution to identify what data from FirstEnergy’s legacy non-Esri GIS would benefit remediation to support the migration process. With the successful completion of the data assessment and migration, FirstEnergy’s UN migration officially went live March 2023.
The project consisted of migrating each of FirstEnergy’s three primary operating regions (West, East, and South), each with its distinct database, leveraging RAMTeCH’s Utility Network Environment Transformation, or uNetTM, solution. The primary goal was to secure the historical investment in FirstEnergy’s legacy enterprise GIS data that is required to run its operations while assuring that the data will support its UN data model, applications, and new ADMS. From prototype and development mocks to go-live production runs, a proven approach to transitioning to the UN was delivered on schedule and data quality levels that exceeded specifications.
Jeff Nash, Sr. Vice President at RAMTeCH said, “We appreciate the trust and confidence FirstEnergy put in us to ensure all data issues were remediated and there was a successful transition to the electric UN”
RAMTeCH’s IP-driven solutions, gReadyTM and uNetTM, gave FirstEnergy the tools to target data challenges specific to the UN and guarantee an effective data migration to its future UN.
